Belagavi: The APMC police on Thursday arrested a woman, Sapna Navi, in connection with the murder of her 4-year-old stepdaughter, Samruddhi Rayanna Navi, who died in May 2024. Initially, the police registered the case as an unnatural death.
However, after Samruddhi’s grandmother accused Sapna of being responsible for the death, a post-mortem was conducted. The report revealed that Samruddhi died from repeated blows to her abdomen.
Based on the post-mortem findings, the police reclassified the case as a murder in September 2024. Sapna had secured anticipatory bail following the registration of the case. However, the police appealed to the court to have her bail revoked. On Thursday, after the court cancelled her bail, Sapna was immediately taken into custody.
