Bulgarian voters would head to polling stations on Sunday for the sixth snap elections. This will be the sixth one in the last three years, and analysts see this as a weak possibility to produce a stable coalition prolonged to put an end to instability.
Bulgaria is the poorest member of the EU and is one corrupt state in the union characterized by revolving door governments since the anti-graft protests in 2020 that helped topple a coalition led by the center-right GERB party.
President Rumen Radev has had to appoint five caretaker governments since then. Most of these coalition governments up till now have proven to be unstable and weak.
A stable and reformative government is the need of the hour for Bulgaria, which accelerates its growth and EU integration. The creaking infrastructure and the lack of infrastructure have caused a lot of resentment for the government among the people of the country.
Hence these elections are crucial for the future of the country, as its people will be voting for members of the European Parliament. A stable regime in the country could also nudge it to join Europe’s open-border Schengen area. Now the verdict lies in the hands of Bulgarian people.
