Internet services were suspended in Udaipur, Rajasthan, for 24 hours on Friday following communal clashes in the city. Authorities also imposed prohibitory orders, restricting public gatherings. According to police reports, a mob threw stones and set three to four cars on fire. By the evening, markets in areas like Bapu Bazar, Hathipole, Ghanta Ghar, and Chetak Circle were closed. Stones were also thrown at a shopping mall, damaging shop glass gates, as reported by PTI. Hundreds of people had gathered outside the government hospital but were later dispersed by police. The unrest in Udaipur erupted after a Class 10 student was allegedly stabbed by a classmate at a government school.
Udaipur district collector Arvind Poswal informed ANI that they received reports of a fight between two students in the morning. “This incident occurred early today. We were informed about a fight where one child was stabbed in the thigh. The injury was deep, and the child was immediately hospitalized,” Poswal said. He added that the child’s condition is stable and that the police are investigating the cause. “I urge the public not to believe any rumors or misinformation. The attacker and his father have been arrested,” Poswal stated.
Following the incident, members of certain Hindu groups gathered at Madhuban in protest, which escalated into violence. The administration has deployed forces across the city, with all police officers monitoring the situation closely. Divisional Commissioner Rajendra Bhatt, Collector Arvind Poswal, SP Yogesh Goyal, Rajya Sabha MP Chunnilal Garasia, Lok Sabha MP Mannalal Rawat, MLAs Tarachand Jain, Phool Singh Meena, and other public representatives held a meeting to assess the situation.
