Namo Bharat Trains: NCRTC Starts Trial Run on the Meerut South to Meerut Central Route
Trial runs are currently being conducted on a six-kilometer stretch between Meerut South and Shatabdi Nagar. The NCRTC also announced that a local metro service would be operated for the first time using the Namo Bharat infrastructure.

The NCRTC on Monday initiated trial runs of Namo Bharat trains between Meerut South and Meerut Central, passing through four intermediate stations. As per the NCRTC, the trains are being tested at speeds reaching up to 120 kilometers per hour.
These trials also involve detailed checks for weight, safety, and system performance. A video shared by the NCRTC highlighted the smooth integration of signaling systems, platform screen doors, and traction.
Meanwhile, trial runs are already in progress on a six-kilometer stretch between Meerut South and Shatabdi Nagar. Additionally, the NCRTC announced that, for the first time, a local metro service would operate using the Namo Bharat infrastructure.
A part of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), the Meerut Metro will cover 13 stations over a 23-kilometer route. The project is expected to be fully operational by the end of June, the NCRTC confirmed.
Sarai Kale Khan, which will be the largest Namo Bharat station in the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, is anticipated to be completed by the end of April. This station is set to improve regional connectivity significantly.
The statement further mentioned that major construction and electrification tasks are nearing completion and that trial runs on the New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan stretch are likely to commence by the end of March. The NCRTC also confirmed that track work between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan stations has been completed.
Sarai Kale Khan station is designed to become a major transport hub, connecting the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor with Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT, and the Ring Road.
A 280-meter-long foot overbridge is also being constructed to link the Namo Bharat station directly with Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, ensuring smoother integration.
