The 2023 MBC Drama Awards, presented by Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), are scheduled to be held on December 30 at the MBC Media Centre Public Hall in Seoul. It is an annual awards ceremony held by MBC to celebrate Korean dramas and their achievements aired on its network. Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation is one of the leading television and radio broadcasters in South Korea, alongside SBS and KBC. For this year’s award ceremony, Kim Sung-joo and Park Gyu-young will take on the roles of hosts.
Fans worldwide eagerly await this award ceremony to vote for their favorite actor or drama. One of the most popular awards on this show is the “Best Couple Award,” given to actors who receive the most votes from viewers by charming them with their swoon-worthy onscreen chemistry. Last year, Lee Jong-suk and Im Yoon-ah received this award for their famous drama, “Big Mouth.” This year’s list of nominees for this award was released by MBC on December 18.
First, we have Woo Do Hwan and WJSN’s Bona, who share a sweet romance in the historical legal drama “Joseon Attorney.” Woo Do Hwan stars as the clever attorney Kang Han Soo, whose only motive is to avenge the wrongful death of his parents. Bona stars as Lee Yeon Joo, a princess who hides her noble status, disguises herself as a servant, and opens a female pavilion. The pair initially starts on the wrong foot but ends up falling for each other as they spend more time together.
Second on the list are Namgoong Min and Ahn Eun Jin, who star as the lead couple in the historical drama “My Dearest.” Jang Hyun is a mysterious, cold-hearted man who cares for no one but changes when fate makes him cross paths with Gil Chae, a noblewoman. A love story follows, but the pair soon finds themselves separated when the Qing invasion of Korea takes place during the Joseon Era.
Next on this list are Cha Eun Woo and Park Gyu Young, who play the lead couple in the fantasy drama “A Good Day to Be a Dog.” Park Gyu-young appears as Han Hae-na, a high school teacher with a strange curse in which she turns into a dog every night. The only way to break the curse is to kiss the same man in her dog form whom she kissed in her human form. However, Jin Seo, who can possibly break this curse, is terrified of dogs due to a traumatic event in his past. How this pair solves their unusual problem forms the crux of this drama, adapted from the webcomic of the same name by cartoonist Lee Hye.
The final pair on this list consists of Lee Se Young and Bae In Hyuk, who star as the leads in the time travel drama “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract.” Se Young plays the role of ‘Park Yeon Woo,’ a 19th-century Joseon Confucian girl who time travels to 2023 after being thrown into a well by an unknown person. In the present day, she meets ‘Kang Tae Ha,’ played by Bae In Hyuk, who is the heir to a powerful conglomerate. He asks Park Yeon Woo to enter into a contract marriage for the sake of personal gain. However, they end up having feelings for each other despite belonging to different time periods.
All four dramas have received great acclaim and appreciation from the audience. The couples from the respective dramas have also received a great deal of love from the viewers. Fans are very excited to see which couple will finally take the trophy home.
