This week, global K-pop star Lisa from BLACKPINK created history by becoming the first K-pop star to gain 100 million followers on her Instagram account. With this achievement, the 26-year-old has also become the first female artist from Asia to have achieved this feat. At the moment, she is the 39th most followed person on Instagram across the world.
Lisa’s journey to become a global star began in 2010. At the age of 13, she participated in the auditions held by South Korean record label YG Entertainment in Thailand. She was the only individual to qualify among the 4,000 applicants and become the label’s first non-ethnically Korean trainee. She successfully debuted in 2016 as a member of the South Korean girl group BLACKPINK with their first album, “Square One.” The group received immense love from fans, but Lisa particularly managed to shine for her rap and dance skills.
In September 2021, she became the third member of her group to debut as a soloist with her single album ‘Lalisa.’ It consisted of a lead single of the same name and a b-side track called ‘Money.’ Upon its release, the music video for “Lalisa” became the most-viewed music video by a soloist in 24 hours with 73.6 million views, breaking the record held by Taylor Swift’s music video “Me!” and helping her earn two Guinness World Records. Both ‘Lalisa’ and ‘Money’ managed to peak at Billboard Global 200 at numbers 2 and 10, respectively.
Her achievements didn’t end here, as in 2022 she became the first solo K-pop artist to win both the MTV Video Music Awards and the MTV Europe Music Awards. Further in 2023, she was awarded two Guinness World Records for being the fastest female solo K-pop artist to have reached 1 billion streams and the first solo K-pop artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify with her album ‘Lalisa.’ She has etched her name in history as the K-pop idol with the most Guinness World Records.
The multitalented Lisa’s achievements do not end just here. Apart from having a very successful music career, Lisa is also the brand ambassador for several high-end companies like Moonshot, MAC Cosmetics, Celine, Bulgari, and Penshoppe. Lisa has also served as a dance mentor for two seasons in the Chinese survival program ‘Youth with You.’ Apart from this, she also has a YouTube channel named ‘Lilifilms’ that has over a billion subscribers. Recently, it is also being rumored that, like her fellow group members Jennie and Jisoo, Lisa might also start her acting career by joining the next season of the popular American Zombie series, ‘The Walking Dead.’
A few weeks ago, YG Entertainment revealed that all the members of BLACKPINK had agreed to renew their contract as a group with YG Entertainment after their 7-year contract expired this year. However, it was a matter of speculation if the members would renew their individual contracts. Today, December 29, YG Entertainment revealed that all four members of BLACKPINK are not renewing their exclusive individual contracts and wished them all the best for their future solo endeavors. Group member Jennie has already established her own company, and another member is also rumored to have done so. Lisa has not revealed any such plans, but there have been rumors that she has been offered a staggering $81 million by some American company to join them.
