The party has named its leader, Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, as the new national spokesperson.

Senior Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi resigned as the party’s spokesperson on Sunday, citing personal reasons. In an official announcement, the party named JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Prasad as the new national spokesperson. According to PTI, Tyagi’s outspoken views on issues such as the Uniform Civil Code, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, and the government’s stance on the Palestine issue created discomfort within his party and caused embarrassment for the BJP.

The report, citing party sources, suggested that with senior JD(U) leaders Lalan Singh, a Union minister, and parliamentary party leader Sanjay Jha based in Delhi, there is a belief that these leaders should handle relations with the BJP without Tyagi’s frequent public comments. In an effort to ensure coordination and maintain unity within the ruling National Democratic Alliance, the BJP has been reaching out to its allies, aiming to dispel rumors of internal discord.

Tyagi has served as a Rajya Sabha member from Bihar and was the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on industry. He previously held roles as a member of the ninth Lok Sabha and chairman of both the committee on papers laid on the table and the Central Warehousing Corporation. Tyagi began his political career in 1974 and made his first attempt at the Lok Sabha elections in 1984 from the Hapur-Ghaziabad constituency.

The JD(U) further stated that its president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has appointed Rajiv Ranjan Prasad as the party’s new national spokesperson.
