Israel on High Alert as Iran Launches Drone and Missile Strike; Netanyahu Vows Strong Response
In response to Iran’s recent drone and missile attacks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a strong statement, saying that Israel has been long ready for Iran’s direct assault. He stressed that Israel was prepared for any threats, either offensively or defensively.
Iran launched over 200 projectiles at Israel, of which many were intercepted by the Israeli defence systems. Drones were also shot down by the United States as well as the United Kingdom, while Jordan stopped drones that violated its airspace.
The American support was praised by Netanyahu, who reiterated their position on this matter, stating, “Whoever harms us, we will harm them.” He stressed that it is determined to defend itself against any threat posed to it.
The strike was claimed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in response to an alleged Israeli attack on a consular compound in Damascus. If another mistake is made by Israel, Iran will threaten a harsh response and tell the US not to join in.
Netanyahu spoke with US President Joe Biden after a war cabinet meeting where the US assured its unwavering commitment to protecting Israel’s security.
Israel’s military spokesperson reported that Iran launched dozens of ground-to-ground missiles, most of which were intercepted outside Israel’s borders. A significant response from Israel to the attack is expected, according to an unnamed Israeli official cited by Israel’s news channel.
