Covid-19 cases are on the rise in India, with the country recording 614 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, prompting the Union Health Ministry to direct states to monitor emerging Covid cases. This is the highest number of new cases registered since May 21. The new 21 cases of the JN.1 sub-variant have been detected in Goa, Kerala, and Maharashtra. The Union Health Ministry has directed state governments to monitor emerging strains and to be ready to face any fresh outbreak.
As per the latest Union Health Ministry data updated, our country now has 2,311 active cases. Three new deaths from this virus have been reported from Kerala, taking the overall death toll to date to 5.33 lakh, and the Covid case tally to 4.50 crore. Kerala is at the top of the list for the most number of active cases.
Health Minister reviews preparedness of health facilities in different states
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya today held a high-level review meeting with different state counterparts in which he stressed reviewing emerging strains of the virus. Following the meeting, the minister assured the public that there was no need to panic. He also advised them to make a plan so that they can tackle any worst situation coming out from it.
As panic spread and Covid came under the spotlight again, experts stepped in to say there is no need to panic – available treatments are effective, the infection is mild, and all viruses mutate.
