Jagadguru Shankaracharya Jyotishpeethadheeshwar Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati made a strong statement regarding the Pahalgam attack, demanding strict action from the government against those responsible.

He said the attack on Hindus in Pahalgam was a pre-planned conspiracy. Killing people after asking their religion is an act of sheer brutality and amounts to a direct warning of war from terrorists. Shankaracharya stressed that instead of just condemning such attacks, the government must take punitive action.

He criticised talks about revoking the Indus Water Treaty, saying the public cannot be fooled by such distractions. The immediate priority should be identifying and strictly punishing those responsible for the attack and then preparing for strong action against handlers operating from across the border. He assured that the people of the country stand firmly with the government.

Deeply anguished by the Pahalgam killings, Shankaracharya voiced these remarks while speaking to journalists at Dr Deepika Upadhyay’s residence in Dayalbagh, Agra, after inspecting a newly constructed ashram. He was travelling from Gwalior to Agra on Friday.

Responding sharply to the incident, he pointed out that mere threats to stop the water supply will not curb terrorism and that the government must now opt for direct and firm action.

On the issue of cow protection, he shared that a campaign is underway to protect ‘Gomata’, aiming to mobilise 33 crore voters for this cause. Plans are in place to appoint a ‘cow representative’ in every assembly constituency, who will be elected and sent to Parliament to truly safeguard the cause of cow welfare.

Concluding his address, he blessed the devotees and urged them to protect the indigenous cow breed, referred to as ‘Rama Cow’. In the afternoon, he departed by road for Haridwar, where he will lead the opening ceremonies of the portals at Badrinath and Kedarnath.
