Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath responded sharply to Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey’s ‘communal’ remark, accusing the Samajwadi Party of manipulating India’s religious sentiments. Speaking in the assembly on Tuesday, he criticized the Akhilesh Yadav-led party for deviating from the principles of socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia.

Emphasising his commitment to inclusive development, Adityanath stated, “You play with India’s religious sentiments and label our ideology as communal. How is it communal? Our belief is in development for all, guided by the principle ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramaya’ (May all be happy, may all be free from illness).”

Highlighting the recently concluded Maha Kumbh, he asserted that the event showcased India’s heritage to the world, with over 100 countries participating without discrimination based on caste, sect, or religion. He accused the opposition of spreading “negative propaganda” about the event, which, he claimed, failed to shake people’s faith.

“Your attempts to spread negativity were unsuccessful. The people of Uttar Pradesh and the country did not believe your words, and soon, they will stop listening to you altogether,” he remarked.
