Dindigul: A 65-year-old woman has been arrested for brutally attacking a seven-year-old girl with an iron rod, leading to the child’s hospitalisation.
According to police reports, M. Prabhu (36), a resident of Pudupatti near Natham in Dindigul district, runs a vehicle rental business involving tractors and excavators. He is married to Deepa, and the couple has two children. Their daughter, Preethika, a Class III student, was on vacation and often visited their neighbour R. Selvam’s house to play with his children.
However, Selvam’s mother, Kuruvammal, reportedly disapproved of Preethika’s frequent visits and had previously warned her not to come over. Despite the warning, Preethika went to play at Selvam’s house on April 18. Enraged, Kuruvammal allegedly shouted at the girl and assaulted her with an iron rod. The child sustained injuries to her face and limbs and lost consciousness. Kuruvammal then allegedly abandoned her on the roadside.
Nearby residents discovered the unconscious girl and alerted her parents, who initially suspected a road accident and took her to the Natham Government Hospital. She was later shifted to a private hospital in Madurai for advanced treatment.
A few days later, after regaining consciousness, Preethika recounted the incident to her parents. Shocked by the revelation, her father lodged a complaint with the Natham police, leading to the arrest of Kuruvammal on Monday.
