Woman Sexually Harassed By Ghaziabad Police Officers

A 22-year-old woman from Noida was sexually harassed and extorted by three Ghaziabad cops. She along with her 23-year-old fiance visited the Sai Upvan city forest on September 16, which is adjacent to the Hindon River metro station and alongside the GT Road for an outing. The three police officers were on duty at a Police Response Vehicle (PRV) around that area.
“It was around 12 noon when three men arrived on a PRV and started threatening us. They slapped my fiance and one of them demanded ₹10,000 for letting us go. We requested them with folded hands and even touched their feet but they did not budge. Later, Rakesh Kumar started misbehaving with me and forced me to get physical with him. The third man also demanded ₹5.5 lakhs. We were held and harassed there for three hours during which the suspects repeatedly touched me inappropriately” the woman said in the FIR.
The victim allegedly paid 1000 rupees via the woman’s online wallet as bribe money so that the cops would let them off. They were scared enough to not report their ordeal immediately after, it was only when the suspects kept harassing her by calling her multiple times and visiting her house for the same.
The woman then dialed the emergency number which landed at the control room of the Delhi police and then forwarded to their counterparts in Ghaziabad. Police immediately upon inquiry took action and lodged an FIR on September 28. They identified the accused cops as Constable Rakesh Kumar, and Digambar Kumar (a home guard), while one who allegedly held the couple captive and harassed them for about three hours, remained unidentified.
The woman confirmed, Rakesh Kumar to be the one who called her on September 19, of which she even has a call recording as proof, and the one who visited to threaten her on September 22 upon filing the complaint.
