A 27-year-old woman, Radha, has been arrested in Nelamangala near Bengaluru for allegedly killing her newborn baby by placing the infant in a vessel of boiling water. According to the police, Radha was battling postpartum depression and believed the child was “not normal” due to its premature birth and inconsolable crying.

The Incident

The tragedy unfolded on Monday at Radha’s parents’ house in Vishweshwarapura, where she had been staying alone. Her husband, reportedly unemployed and struggling with alcoholism, had stopped visiting her. The police say Radha lit a stove, brought water to a boil, and then placed the infant into it, resulting in the baby’s death from burns.

Mental Health Concerns

Police believe Radha’s mental health condition may have played a significant role in the act. This incident highlights the importance of addressing postpartum depression and providing support to new mothers.
