Imphal: Police on Wednesday reported the arrest of a 46-year-old woman for her alleged role in the vandalism of MLAs’ and ministers’ residences in the Imphal Valley on November 16.
Mobs had torched the homes of three BJP legislators, including a senior minister, and a Congress MLA in different districts of the valley. The unrest followed violence in Jiribam, which escalated after three women and three children from the Meitei community went missing from a relief camp. Their disappearance came after a gunfight on November 11 between security forces and suspected Kuki-Zo militants, resulting in the deaths of 10 insurgents. The bodies of the six missing individuals were later recovered.
Police have arrested over 30 individuals in connection with the attacks. Among them is Thingbaijam Sushila Devi, who was taken into custody on Tuesday.
In a separate incident, an active member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) was arrested for extortion in the Nambol area of Bishnupur district. The accused, Wairokpam Naoba Meitei, was allegedly extorting money from shopkeepers and local businesses. Police also seized a two-wheeler during the operation.
