Kullu: Police in Kangra have registered a case against a woman accused of hurting religious sentiments after a video went viral on social media on Tuesday.
The video allegedly shows the woman, identified as Sushma Devi, confronting two Muslim traders from Kashmir and demanding they chant ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ She is also seen warning the men not to enter Himachal Pradesh or conduct business there.
Acting on the video, police have filed an FIR at the Alampur police post in Kangra district, citing charges of hurting religious sentiments.
On Wednesday, Sushma Devi issued an apology through a video on social media, expressing regret for her “unintentional comments.”
Himachal Pradesh, traditionally known for its peaceful environment, has experienced a surge in religious intolerance in recent months. Incidents of Hindu mobs threatening and looting Muslim shopkeepers were reported in areas like Paonta Sahib, Palampur, and Kangra.
Additionally, right-wing Hindu groups have led large-scale protests in towns such as Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla demanding the removal of mosques.
