In Jaipur, a 45-year-old woman and her partner were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly extorting Rs 10 lakh and a plot of land from an elderly man by threatening to accuse him of rape. The Chomu police identified the suspects as Lali Devi, 45, and Kailash Sepat, 46, both from the Renwal area near Jaipur.
According to police, a 63-year-old man filed an FIR on Monday, claiming that Lali had approached him recently under the guise of seeking suitable matches for her daughters. He alleged that during this time, she took photos and videos of him with her. He reported that Lali and Sepat later called him, saying they had urgent matters to discuss, and threatened to use the photos and videos to damage his reputation within his family and community unless he paid them Rs 10 lakh and provided a plot of land.
The complainant stated that they warned him of severe consequences, including filing a rape allegation against him, if he failed to comply. “The complainant said he was experiencing mental distress due to their demands, which led him to file an FIR,” a police official reported.
