BJP spokesperson RP Singh on Tuesday challenged Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to repeat his remarks about Sikhs within India, warning that he would take him to court if he did so. Singh pointed out that 3,000 Sikhs were killed in Delhi during the 1984 riots when the Congress party was in power. “3,000 Sikhs were massacred in Delhi; their turbans were removed, their hair cut, and their beards shaved… Rahul Gandhi does not mention that this happened under Congress rule. I dare Rahul Gandhi to repeat in India what he is saying about Sikhs, and I will file a case against him and take him to court,” Singh said. Rahul Gandhi, who is currently in the United States, had stated that his political battle concerns whether Sikhs are permitted to wear turbans, kadas, or visit gurdwaras in India. He explained in Virginia, “The fight is not about politics; it is deeper. The fight is about whether a Sikh will be allowed to wear his turban in India or visit a gurdwara. And this is not just for Sikhs, but for people of all religions.”

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan criticized Rahul Gandhi for his remarks, stating that, unlike Rahul, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as Leader of the Opposition, never disparaged the country while abroad. Chouhan remarked, “Rahul Gandhi holds a responsible position as the Leader of the Opposition. When Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in that role, he never tried to tarnish the country’s image overseas. Due to consecutive defeats, anti-BJP, anti-RSS, and anti-Modi sentiments have taken hold in his mind, leading him to constantly malign India’s reputation. Maligning the nation’s image is akin to treason. Who attacked the Constitution? Who imposed the Emergency? He goes on a Bharat Jodo Yatra but fails to connect with India or its people.” BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari added that the Congress party is fearful of its lies being exposed. “Today, fear is prevalent within the Congress party. When a Congresswoman spoke about a ‘casting couch,’ she was suspended by the party. Congress workers live in fear because its leadership appears to protect rapists or support those accused of rape. The Congress party fears its false propaganda will be revealed. People elected BJP under PM Modi in 2014, 2019, and again in 2024,” Bhandari said. Rahul Gandhi also mentioned that since the Lok Sabha election results, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been psychologically trapped.
