Former Karnataka Director General of Police Om Prakash, 68, was found dead at his Bengaluru residence, with sources revealing a violent altercation with his wife, Pallavi, earlier that day. During the confrontation, she allegedly threw chilli powder at him, tied him up, and fatally stabbed him, also attacking him with a glass bottle.
After the incident, Pallavi reportedly confessed to the wife of another police officer, prompting authorities to reach the scene. Both Pallavi and the couple’s daughter were detained and questioned for nearly 12 hours. Pallavi is currently the prime suspect, and police are probing whether the daughter had any involvement. Om Prakash’s body bore multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdomen.
The altercation is believed to have stemmed from a dispute over property that Om Prakash had transferred to a relative. A case was filed following a complaint from his son. Police received information about the death around 4 a.m., according to Additional Commissioner Vikas Kumar.
A 1981-batch IPS officer, Om Prakash was appointed DGP in March 2015 and had previously led the Fire and Emergency Services and Home Guards. Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara expressed shock, stating, “Preliminary details point to his wife’s involvement, but we must await the full investigation. He was a good officer and human being. This should not have happened.”
