West Bengal Police Foils Smuggling Attempt: BSF Arrests 2 with Rs. 8.5 Crore Gold

In a significant operation, the West Bengal police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), successfully thwarted a smuggling attempt, resulting in the arrest of two individuals carrying gold worth a staggering Rs. 8.5 crore.
The BSF, on Saturday, seized a total of 106 gold biscuits, with an estimated market value of Rs. 8.50 crore, preventing yet another illicit gold trafficking incident along the India-Bangladesh border.
Officials disclosed that the illicit stash of gold was concealed in a house located in the village of Nadia, West Bengal, where the smuggling operation was intercepted.
Following the tip, the joint team began a search operation in the village of Vijaypur. After an hour of intensive investigation, they found two bags that had been cloth-wrapped in a waste pile inside a home. These bags contained a total of 106 gold biscuits of varying sizes, with a combined weight of 14.296 kg.
The squad team also detained two smugglers, Rabindra Nath Biswas and Vidhan Ghosh, during the operation. During the questioning, both arrested individuals admitted to BSI and DRI that they had stolen the gold biscuits from Masood and Naseef, two Bangladeshi nationals.
The gold was supposed to be given to Santosh Haldar, a resident of Nadia district, after being received; however, due to BSF personnel’s monitoring in the region, the gold was hidden in the house.
Following the discovery of the gold biscuit, BSI claims that covert cameras at the border are being used to identify traffickers.
After their interrogation, both the accused and the confiscated gold biscuits were given to the DRI team for further legal action.
