Vienna: Once Again Crowned as the World’s Most Liveable City for 2024
It is somehow clear that no city in the world can beat Vienna as the most lovely place to live as for now. Once again, Vienna topped as the most liveable city according to the latest annual report by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) released today. Denmark’s Copenhagen found itself in second place as per the report. While Zurich in Switzerland ascended from sixth to third place. Melbourne, Australia slipped to fourth, sharing the fifth spot with Calgary, Canada, and Geneva, Switzerland.
173 cities were evaluated globally by EIU, determining several key factors including healthcare, culture and environment, stability, infrastructure, and education. Vienna scored a perfect score of 100 in four out of five categories making the overall score of 98.4 in the index, and thus it topped the list. Copenhagen, on the other hand, scored a perfect 100 in three out of five categories with an overall score of 98, which led the city to the second position.
According to the EIU data, Vienna has top-rated facilities in terms of healthcare, education, infrastructure, and stability. Overall, it seems like Western Europe has once again topped the position, with Copenhagen, Zurich, and Geneva once again making it to the top ten. The 30 Western European cities in this year’s ranking reported an impressive average score of 92 out of 100. However, the region has seen the biggest fall in score, owing to a deterioration in the stability category, which was also the biggest declining factor in all five categories in the index globally.
In Asia, Hong Kong shows some improvement as it climbed to 50th position from last year’s 61st position. Meanwhile, Arabian cities like Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh, and Jeddah also gained some points and climbed upwards in the rankings. While Tel Aviv saw one of the biggest declines as it dropped 20 positions to 112th this year due to its ongoing regional conflicts with Hamas and Hezbollah.
