Veteran actor Naeem Sayyed, popularly known as Junior Mehmood, passed away at the age of 67. He had been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer and was undergoing treatment for the same. His son, Husnain, told the media that the family came to know about his condition only 18 days ago. He said that they were advised against going for extensive treatment due to its painful nature and therefore opted to provide care for him at home.
He was recently in the news when someone posted on X about his last wish to meet his co-stars, Jeetendra, and Sachin Pilgaonkar. In the post, it was written, “Junior Mehmood was the first child star of his time. He is undergoing treatment for stage 4 cancer in the hospital. He has expressed his desire to meet Jitendra. He has also worked with him on many films. He wants his childhood friend, Sachin Pilgaonkar, to also meet him. I request Jitendra and Sachin to fulfill his wish. This could be his last wish.”
Actor Johnny Lever came to meet him as soon as he came to know about his condition. Lever made sure that Junior Mehmood’s last wish to meet Jitendra was fulfilled. He reached out to Jitendra and asked him to come as soon as possible. This was later confirmed by Jitendra in his statement to the media.
After visiting the ailing Mehmood, Jitendra spoke to the media. He told them, “I am here by his bedside, but he is unable to recognize me. He is in so much pain; he is unable to open his eyes. To see him in this state breaks my heart…I have been coming to the Mount Mary Church for 25 years. When I learned of Junior’s health condition, I planned to visit him on my way to the church next Sunday. But Johnny reached out to me on Monday night, urging a quick visit.” Later, Sachin Pilgaonkar also visited Junior Mehmood and posted a message on Instagram asking everyone to pray for the good health of his childhood friend. He wrote, “I request you all to pray for my childhood friend Jr Mehmood who’s suffering from a fatal illness… May God bless him.”
Naeem Sayyed’s career in films began as a child artist in Mohabbat Zindagi Hai (1966). He later went on to star in movies like Naunihal, Caravan, Haathi Mere Saathi, Mera Naam Joker, Suhaag Raat, Brahmachari, and more. He later got his screen name, Junior Mehmood, from the late comedy icon Mehmood. Mehmood had taken him in as his disciple, and the pair worked together in the 1968 movie Suhaag Raat.
