New Delhi: A 24-year-old man from Bareilly’s Izzatnagar area allegedly died by suicide at his residence, reportedly following ongoing marital issues, police said on Thursday.

The man, identified as Raj Arya, was discovered hanging in his room on Wednesday.

According to family members, Raj had been facing alleged harassment from his wife, Simran (23), whom he had married in a love marriage in April 2024. The couple had recently welcomed a baby girl just 45 days prior to the incident.

Both Raj and Simran were employed in private companies at the time of their marriage but had recently lost their jobs. Police sources say tensions had been rising between them, and around 10 days ago, Simran left their home following a heated argument and returned to her parental house.

On Wednesday morning, Simran allegedly shared two Instagram status updates — the first reading, “He will be in jail by 10:30 am,” hinting at a police complaint against Raj, and the second saying, “Now go to jail.”
That evening, Raj died by suicide.

His mother told police that just before the incident, Raj had said, “Maa, I’m going to sleep forever.” She initially didn’t realise the gravity of his words but soon found him hanging from a ceiling fan.

Police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination.

Circle Officer Ajay Kumar confirmed the case, stating that legal proceedings will commence once a formal complaint is filed by the family.
