Amid two recent cases of spousal betrayal leading to brutal murders in Meerut and Auraiya, a man from Uttar Pradesh’s Sant Kabir Nagar chose an unconventional path—prioritising dignity over vengeance. Instead of resorting to violence, Bablu Kori stunned his community by willingly marrying off his wife to her lover.
Unlike the Meerut case, where a man was killed and dismembered by his wife and her lover, and the Auraiya incident, where a newlywed woman conspired with her lover and a contract killer to murder her husband of just 15 days, Bablu took a different approach.

Bablu Kori (33), an electrician from Katar Jot village, married Radhika Kumari from Gorakhpur in 2017. The couple has two children. Due to his frequent work-related travels, Radhika developed a romantic relationship with Vikas Kumar, a young man from their village.

Upon discovering the affair, Bablu chose not to react with anger or confrontation. Instead, he took Radhika to Dhanghata tehsil, where they formalised their separation through an affidavit. Following this, they proceeded to the Dani Nath Shiv temple, where Radhika and Vikas were married in a traditional Hindu ceremony. Bablu, along with other villagers, stood as a witness as the couple exchanged garlands and Vikas applied vermillion to Radhika’s forehead.

“Throughout the ceremony, Bablu ensured that everything went smoothly,” said his uncle, Prabhash Lodhi.
Speaking to TOI, Bablu expressed his acceptance of the situation, stating, “I will take care of our children. I only want Radhika to be happy.”

Though his decision appeared calm, it wasn’t made overnight. Initially, Bablu struggled to believe his wife of eight years had betrayed him. However, as his suspicions grew, he closely observed her actions upon her returning to the village. “Once my doubts turned into certainty, I chose not to respond with anger or violence,” he said.

Before finalising his decision, Bablu sought the counsel of village elders, who agreed that Radhika should be allowed to marry Vikas. They praised Bablu’s mature handling of the situation.

“What’s the point of holding onto a relationship that only causes suffocation for both partners?” Bablu said, adding that his parents supported his decision and would help him raise his children.

To ensure the marriage’s legal validity, Bablu also facilitated the necessary paperwork, including an affidavit at the local court, confirmed Rakesh Kumar, the village head of Katar Jot.
