Bijnor: A shocking murder in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor has come to light after police revealed that a woman allegedly strangled her husband following a dispute over moving to the city. The case, which had puzzled authorities for three days, was cracked on Tuesday when Bijnor police shared the investigation details in a press briefing.
Superintendent of Police (City) Sanjeev Kumar Bajpai stated that the accused, Shivani, killed her husband for two primary reasons. Firstly, she was unwilling to continue residing in the village with her in-laws, while her husband insisted that she and their child remain in the joint family. Shivani had been pushing to relocate to Najibabad for a better quality of life, causing repeated friction in their marriage.
The second reason, according to the police, was the husband’s ongoing distrust and physical violence. He regularly accused Shivani of infidelity and assaulted her during confrontations. This prolonged emotional and physical abuse allegedly pushed Shivani to plan his murder.
Investigations revealed that Shivani spiked fox nuts (makhana) with sedatives and served them to her husband. After he lost consciousness, she strangled him with a rope. The autopsy indicated the use of the left hand in the act, which matched findings that Shivani had a previous fracture in her right hand, forcing her to use the left. As part of the investigation, police recreated the crime scene and retrieved a significant video from Shivani’s phone, showing a heated altercation between the couple, with their child crying in the background—offering insight into the troubled marriage.
The husband’s family approached senior police officials on Tuesday, urging an inquiry into the possible involvement of others. They alleged that Shivani may not have acted alone and suggested she killed her husband for financial gain and the prospect of a city job. They believe others might have assisted in planning or covering up the crime.
Shivani is currently in custody and is being sent to jail. Police stated that the investigation remains ongoing, and further revelations are expected.
