In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Kamala Harris emphasised that she and President Joe Biden are in close coordination with federal, state, and local officials to ensure a unified and effective response to the crisis.

Kamala Harris said, “Over the past seven days, communities across Southern California have experienced terrible losses due to the wildfires. President Biden and I have been in close contact with federal, state, and local officials, and our administration will continue to provide resources to support response efforts and help impacted communities.”

Addressing her “fellow Californians,” she underscored the importance of vigilance as conditions remain volatile. “As winds pick up again, please follow the guidance of local authorities and stay safe,” she urged. She also thanked firefighters and first responders who worked tirelessly in dangerous conditions. “I am grateful to the firefighters and first responders who are working around the clock and putting themselves at risk to help keep communities safe,” she wrote. She added that their efforts “exemplify the best of the American spirit in times of crisis.”

More than a week after the devastating wildfires began, the flames have already become the most destructive in Los Angeles County history and are on track to rank among the deadliest in California. At least 12,300 structures have been destroyed, and 24 people have lost their lives, according to Al Jazeera. Local officials are bracing for more strong winds, which are expected to continue until Wednesday. California state officials have deployed additional firefighters to high-risk areas in Los Angeles and other southern counties to deal with the growing fire threat. As of Monday, evacuation orders affected more than 92,000 residents in Los Angeles County, down from a peak of 150,000.

The vice president reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting affected communities, saying resources will continue to be provided to aid in response efforts and recovery. Harris’ message is a reminder of the challenges posed by wildfires and the critical importance of community resilience and safety.
