US Imposes Sanctions on Companies Supplying Missile Technology to Pakistan
The United States has recently imposed sanctions on several companies from China and Belarus for supplying missile-applicable items to Pakistan’s ballistic missile programme. These sanctions come as part of efforts to disrupt procurement networks supporting proliferation activities.
The companies named in the sanctions include Xi’an Longde Technology Development, Tianjin Creative Source International Trade, and Granpect Co. Ltd from China, as well as Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant from Belarus. These entities have been found to engage in activities that contribute to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction or their means of delivery by Pakistan.
China has long been a key supplier of arms and defense equipment to Pakistan, supporting its military modernization program. Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant, on the other hand, supplied special vehicle chassis to Pakistan’s long-range ballistic missile program, which are used as launch support equipment.
Xi’an Longde Technology Development Company Limited supplied missile-related equipment, including a filament winding machine, while Tianjin Creative Source International Trade Co Ltd supplied stir welding equipment and a linear accelerator system, which can be used in the manufacture of propellant tanks and inspection of solid rocket motors, respectively.
Granpect Company worked with Pakistan’s SUPARCO to supply equipment for testing large-diameter rocket motors. These sanctions highlight the efforts of the US to strengthen the global nonproliferation regime and disrupt proliferation activities of concern.
These actions underline the importance of international cooperation in preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery.
