Gonda, Uttar Pradesh: A woman in this district has allegedly threatened to dismember her husband and store his body parts in a drum, mirroring a recent gruesome case in Meerut. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

According to police, complaints from both parties were received on Saturday, and an investigation is underway. Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings. Junior Engineer (JE) Dharmendra Kushwaha, originally from Jhansi and currently employed at the Jal Nigam in Gonda, has accused his wife, Maya Maurya, and her alleged lover, Neeraj Maurya, of assault and issuing death threats.

Kushwaha stated that he had a love marriage with Maya in 2016. Over the years, he purchased three four-wheelers in her name after their daughter’s birth and continued paying the instalments. In 2022, Kushwaha also bought land in Maya’s name and assigned the house construction contract to her relative, Neeraj Maurya. He claimed that Maya grew close to Neeraj during this period, and their relationship strengthened after Neeraj’s wife passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kushwaha alleged that he caught Maya and Neeraj in a compromising situation on July 7, 2024. When he confronted them, he was assaulted, and Maya subsequently left their home. Later, on August 25, 2024, Maya reportedly returned with Neeraj, forcibly broke the lock, and took 15 grams of gold jewellery and cash. Kushwaha filed a complaint regarding this incident on September 1, 2024. On March 29, 2025, Maya allegedly threatened to harm Kushwaha’s mother. When he objected, Maya and Neeraj reportedly assaulted both him and his mother. According to Kushwaha’s complaint, Maya said, “If you speak too much, I will have you chopped and packed in a drum like the Meerut case.”

Maya, however, has denied the allegations, claiming that Kushwaha has been harassing her and has forced her to undergo four abortions. She further alleged that after a dispute in July 2024, Kushwaha physically assaulted her, prompting her to file a report at the women’s police station. Following this, he filed for divorce and forced her out of their home.

Kotwali Police Station SHO Vivek Trivedi stated on Sunday that several legal disputes between the couple are already in court. The police have initiated an investigation into the recent allegations and are reviewing CCTV footage.
