Barabanki (UP), Dec 28: Police arrested three women on Saturday for alleged involvement in drug trafficking and seized 750 grams of illegal smack from them.
According to police, the seized contraband is valued at ₹75 lakh in the international black market. Additional Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Narayan stated that the arrests were part of an ongoing campaign to combat crime and drug trafficking in the district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Ram Sanehi Ghat apprehended three accused—Meena, Roshni, and Shivani—all residents of Kotwa Sadak, he said.
The police recovered 750 grams of smack and ₹5,170 in cash from their possession. A case has been registered against them under Section 8/21(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he added.
Further investigations revealed that the accused were part of a family deeply involved in drug smuggling. “Meena’s husband, Jai Prakash Pathak, alias Kinni, and her son, Shivam Pathak, alias Golu, have both been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹1 lakh each for their roles in narcotics trafficking,” Narayan disclosed.
He also mentioned that Meena’s other son, Satyam Pathak, is currently incarcerated in Barabanki District Jail on similar charges.
During questioning, the accused admitted to purchasing the illegal smack from Diwakar, the son of Jagatram Mishra, and selling it covertly through a window in their house to evade detection, the officer said.
