A horrifying incident has shaken Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh, where a 22-year-old deaf-mute woman was gangraped in the Bahadurpur area of Balrampur district. Two men, Ankur Verma (21) and Harshit Pandey (22), have been arrested in connection with the crime following an early morning encounter with police.

Incident Details

  • Attack on August 11: The victim was returning home from her maternal grandparents’ residence around 8 PM when she was allegedly accosted and taken to a secluded field.
  • Victim’s Condition: Due to her inability to speak or hear, she was left defenseless and traumatized. Her family found her unconscious in the field and rushed her to the district women’s hospital.
  • CCTV Footage: A video from a nearby camera showed the victim fleeing her assailants, which became central to the investigation.

Arrests and Investigation

  • Encounter with Police: Ankur Verma and Harshit Pandey were arrested after they opened fire on the police while trying to flee to Nepal.
  • Confession: Both suspects confessed to the crime.
  • Police Investigation: Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar stated that CCTV footage and motorcycle registration numbers led to the suspects’ identification. Police are investigating whether others were involved.
