UP: Man Murders Wife and Baby Daughter Before Taking his Own Life

Lucknow: A 22-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife and three-month-old daughter before taking his own life at a rented house in Banda, Uttar Pradesh. Police discovered the bodies on Saturday evening after neighbors alerted them about a foul odor coming from the residence.
The deceased were identified as Jitendra Prajapati (22), his wife Gaura (20), and their infant daughter Shivanshi. The couple had been married since April last year. Jitendra, who worked as a contractor in a paint shop, reportedly committed the crime following alleged harassment from his in-laws.
According to Jitendra’s younger brother Govind, tensions had escalated between the couple due to pressure from Gaura and her mother, Mamta Devi, who allegedly insisted that Jitendra live separately from his family. He had moved into a rented accommodation in Atarra around eight months ago and had returned from working in a steel factory in Ahmedabad just a day before the incident.
Anand Kumar Singh, SHO of Atarra, confirmed the recovery of a suicide note believed to have been written by Jitendra. In it, he accused his in-laws of assault and emotional abuse, claiming Gaura and her mother had threatened to falsely implicate him if he didn’t comply with their demands.
Jitendra’s sister, Rekha, said call records suggest he died on May 7. While relatives acknowledged that he consumed alcohol occasionally, his landlord described him as a quiet and reserved man, though arguments involving Gaura were frequently heard.
The bodies have been sent for autopsy, and police said further investigation will depend on forensic results and the analysis of digital evidence.
