Lucknow: In a bid to improve emergency cardiac services and reduce mortality rates, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched the STEMI (System of Treating Elevation Myocardial Infarction) care network. This initiative aims to provide timely treatment to heart attack patients across the state, especially during the critical “golden hour” following an attack.

Under this network, district hospitals and community health centers will be equipped to provide advanced cardiac care, with the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) serving as the central hub. A three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop was recently held at RMLIMS to train healthcare professionals in implementing standardised STEMI protocols.

These protocols will ensure early diagnosis, prompt administration of medication, and timely patient transfer to higher centers when needed. The government has also assured that Tenecteplase, a life-saving clot-dissolving drug, will be available at all healthcare centers, including remote ones.

“Our goal is to ensure that no patient in Uttar Pradesh loses their life due to the non-availability of timely heart attack treatment,” said Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, Principal Secretary of Medical Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education. With this initiative, the state government aims to expand emergency cardiac services and make quality healthcare more accessible to patients in remote areas.
