Bollywood actor Disha Patani’s father, Jagdish Singh Patani, was allegedly duped of ₹25 lakh by five individuals who promised him a high-ranking position in a government commission, according to police reports shared with news agency PTI on Friday. An FIR was filed at Bareilly Kotwali police station that evening by Patani, a retired deputy superintendent of police. DK Sharma, the station in charge, stated that a case has been registered against Shivendra Pratap Singh, Diwakar Garg, Acharya Jayaprakash from Juna Akhara, Preeti Garg, and an unidentified individual on charges of cheating, criminal intimidation, and extortion. “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accused and ensure strict action,” Sharma said.

Patani, a resident of the Civil Lines area in Bareilly, alleged that Shivendra Pratap Singh, a personal acquaintance, introduced him to Diwakar Garg and Acharya Jayaprakash. The group claimed to have strong political ties and assured him they could secure a prestigious government position for him, such as chairman or vice chairman of a commission.

The accused allegedly extorted ₹25 lakh from Patani, comprising ₹5 lakh in cash and ₹20 lakh via bank transfers to three different accounts. However, after three months without any progress, the group promised to return the money with interest. When Patani demanded his money back, they began issuing threats and acting aggressively, police said.

In his complaint, Patani also stated that the group misled him by introducing one of their associates as an “officer on special duty” named Himanshu to bolster their claims of political connections. Suspecting that the scam was part of a larger fraud, Patani decided to report the matter to the police.
