Sub-Inspector Amrita Yadav, who was caught accepting a ₹20,000 bribe to remove rape charges from a case, has finally been dismissed from service after nine years. Due to strong advocacy by the police, she was also sentenced to seven years in prison by a women’s court, a term she has already served. Recently, she was posted in Baghpat but is currently serving her sentence in Chaudhary Charan Singh Jail.
The incident took place when she was in charge of the Budhana Gate outpost under the Kotwali police station. On April 28, 2017, Ana Mazhar, a resident of Kotwali’s Karam Ali area, filed a case of dowry harassment and rape against her husband, Sameer, a resident of Sikri Road, Modinagar, Ghaziabad.
Sameer claimed that the rape and unnatural sex charges (Sections 376 and 377 IPC) were falsely included in the FIR and obtained a stay on arrest from the High Court. Despite the stay, Sub-Inspector Amrita Yadav continued to pressure him for arrest. On June 8, 2017, at the Budhana Gate outpost, Amrita demanded ₹1 lakh to remove Sections 376 and 377 from the case. After negotiations, the amount was settled at ₹20,000.
Sameer recorded the conversation and informed the anti-corruption team. On June 13, 2017, the team caught Amrita red-handed while accepting the bribe and arrested her. The police later submitted a chargesheet against her in court.
On September 5, 2024, due to the strong prosecution by the police, Amrita Yadav was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined ₹75,000. Following this, DIG Kalanidhi Naithani issued an order for her dismissal under Rule 8(2)(a) of the 1991 Service Rules after a departmental inquiry confirmed her misconduct.
