UP CM Orders FIRs Against 2 Firms for Neglect of Cattle at Meerut Gaushala

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken swift action against two outsourcing firms, Jain Computers and Shivam Enterprises, for alleged neglect of cattle at the Kanha Upvan Gaushala in Meerut. The firms were contracted to deploy caretakers and staff for the upkeep of over 2,500 cattle in the gaushala.
Key Findings
- Poor Management: Despite previous warnings, both firms failed to improve their management, leading to severe lapses in cattle care, including delayed feeding and caretaker absenteeism.
- FIRs Registered: FIRs have been lodged against the two firms under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Animal Welfare Officer Harpal Singh and the gaushala’s caretaker have also been suspended.
- Corrective Measures: The Municipal Corporation has taken several steps to improve the gaushala’s operations, including:
- Installing 12 CCTV Cameras: for continuous surveillance
- Face Recognition System: to track staff attendance and ensure accountability
- Additional Staff: 50 new staff members and six home guards have been deployed in two shifts
- Trauma Center: immediate treatment for injured or sick cattle
- Expansion Plans: 15,000 square meters of land have been identified for expanding the gaushala to accommodate more cattle
Action Against Officials
- Suspension of Officials: Assistant Municipal Commissioner Sharad Pal has been replaced by Additional Municipal Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Singh. Municipal Health Officer Dr. Gajendra has been reassigned, and Dr. Amar Singh has taken his place.
- Clerk Suspended: Clerk Vikas Sharma was suspended for discrepancies in record-keeping.
