Madhya Pradesh Union Home Minister Amit Shah has a busy campaign schedule on Thursday, including temple visits and rallies. He will begin by visiting Mandla in Madhya Pradesh to perform a puja at the Maa Narmada Pujon Rapta ghat, followed by addressing a rally at the local police ground. Mandla is set to vote in Phase 1 of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19, with BJP’s Faggan Singh Kulaste contesting against Congress’ Omkar Singh Markaam. Later in the day, Shah will travel to Katni in Madhya Pradesh to visit the Vijaynath Dham mandir, falling under the Khajuraho Lok Sabha constituency, where BJP’s VD Sharma is contesting.

The BJP had secured 28 out of 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh previously, and it remains to be seen if it can maintain its stronghold in the state, which is part of the Hindi heartland. Shah will also visit Maharashtra, where both alliances – Maha Vikas Aghadi and the ruling NDA – are fiercely competing. The Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Marathwada region, historically challenging for BJP, is a key battleground. Despite previous setbacks, BJP hopes to make gains with the induction of former Congress leader Ashok Chavan.

In the 2019 elections, BJP won four out of eight seats in the region, with Shiv Sena winning three and AIMIM securing one seat. With the changed political landscape after the Shiv Sena’s split, Uddhav Thackeray’s task is to maintain dominance. Sanjay Shirsat, Shiv Sena spokesperson, expressed confidence in achieving their target despite earlier concerns about potential vote division.
