New Delhi — As Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gears up to present the Union Budget for 2024, stakeholders across various sectors are poised on the edge of their seats, anticipating reforms and initiatives that could redefine the trajectory of India’s economy. Among the observers is Prashant Singh, Co-Founder and CEO of Blue Planet Environmental Solutions, who is particularly focused on how the budget will bolster the waste management sector.
Singh, a prominent figure in environmental solutions, expressed his expectations for the budget to significantly advance ‘green growth’ by enhancing investments in biogas and bio-CNG plants. “The potential of waste management within the circular economy is immense, particularly in transforming waste into alternative resources and energy,” Singh noted, highlighting the dual benefits of reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable job opportunities.
The government’s proposed focus on green initiatives aligns with Singh’s vision, as it promises substantial investments that could transform agricultural and urban waste into bio-CNG, mitigating the waste crisis while supporting India’s clean energy transition. “Converting waste to energy not only addresses environmental concerns but also propels the economy by producing greener fuels and reducing reliance on landfills,” he elaborated.
Singh remains optimistic about the direction the government is taking with the upcoming budget. “We are hopeful that the Union Budget 2024 will spotlight these critical changes, thereby driving both environmental sustainability and economic growth,” he said. The anticipated policy support from the budget could potentially elevate the waste management sector, significantly contributing to India’s GDP.
The 2024 budget is critical not just for the waste management sector but also for stakeholders in FMCG, real estate, technology, and more. It aims to meet the expectations of a diverse demographic, including taxpayers, investors, industries, farmers, and women, promising comprehensive growth and development.
