In a high-profile visit to India, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, accompanied by his wife Akshata Murty, has arrived for the G-20 summit. Sunak, who shares a unique connection with the Indian subcontinent as the grandson of Indian immigrants and a practicing Hindu, is anticipating a warm welcome as “India’s Son-in-law” on his maiden visit to the country since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sunak has plans to use the trip to make ‘’headway on a trade deal with India’’ as well as persuading other countries to work to prevent Russia’s use of Ukrainian grains.

Rishi Sunak spoke to journalists on the journey to Delhi. He said, “It’s special. I’ll be visiting a country that is very near and dear to me. I haven’t been back for a few years.”

G-20 leaders will arrive within 24 hours in preparation for the summit. Sunak enjoys a special status in India as the grandson of Indian immigrants and as a practicing Hindu. He will visit a significant religious and cultural site and get engaged with the culture and traditions. On the other side, street vendors in India were selling paintings of Rishi Sunak with the message “Congratulations and Good Luck for the British Prime Minister.”

Rishi Sunak and N.R. Narayan Murthy are in India to help Prime Minister Boris Johnson secure an allowance from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meeting. Sunak is also expected to discuss a deal between the UK and India before the end of this year. During the summit, Boris Johnson is not allowed to meet the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The Prime Minister said that Putin not being there demonstrates his isolation in the global community. He didn’t participate last year, and he’s not participating this year. What is he doing?

Rishi Sunak is being cautious and not committing to whether he will meet with Li Qiang, the Chinese premier, during the upcoming event. He also said that if he is present at the event, there might be an opportunity for a meeting, and he also did not confirm or deny that he is expecting to speak to a range of people. He does not provide details about what he would say to Li Qiang or the nature of their potential discussion.
