Uber driver in Bangalore assaults woman, son for hopping in the wrong cab
In a shocking incident, an Uber driver in Bangalore allegedly assaulted a woman and her son after they mistakenly entered the wrong cab. The incident occurred in a residential area in Bhoganahalli on Wednesday when the woman had booked a cab to take her to a hospital, as reported by the police.
The police stated that the woman mistakenly hopped into the wrong cab, and when she tried to get down, she was assaulted. When her son came to her rescue, he was also assaulted. The locals had to intervene to stop the assault.
A police complaint was filed, and the driver was arrested. The 25-year-old driver, Basavaraju, is a native of Malleshwaram. The incident was recorded in the surveillance footage.
The distressing incident came to public attention when the woman’s husband took to social media to share the harrowing experience. He also lodged a formal complaint with Uber, demanding appropriate action.
The woman’s husband wrote, “My wife booked an Uber to visit Manipal Hospital for my son’s medical appointment. The cab arrived at our residence at about 11:05 am (Driver: Basavaraj, KA26A9391). As soon as my family got in and before any movement, they realized they had entered the wrong cab and immediately notified the driver.”
He further explained that while his son managed to exit the cab, the driver accelerated the car while his wife was still stepping out, adding that the driver hit his wife on the head multiple times. “My son, attempting to rescue her, was also assaulted,” he stated. “The driver’s aggression continued until neighbors rushed to their aid. Upon dialing the police, the driver attempted to flee but was apprehended at the main security gate of our campus. We are deeply grateful to our friends, including Krishna Kumar and others, as well as our neighbors, whose timely intervention prevented further harm,” he added.
This distressing incident sheds light on the importance of passenger safety and raises concerns about the behavior of some ride-sharing drivers. As investigations continue, the police are expected to take strict action against the accused driver to ensure justice prevails.
