The UAE-India CEPA Council (UICC), in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Ladies Organisation (FICCI-FLO Mumbai Chapter), recently organised a high-profile business roundtable to empower Indian women entrepreneurs by harnessing the full potential of the UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). According to an official statement, the event was attended by over 40 Indian women business leaders and entrepreneurs and highlighted the mutual benefits of enhanced bilateral cooperation.
The UAE delegation comprised eminent personalities such as Abdulnassir Alshali, UAE Ambassador to India; Ahmed Aljanebi, Director UICC; and Kawthar Alkharousi, Senior Specialist for Investment Support and Promotion at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. FICCI-FLO was represented by National President Jayshree Das Verma, Armeen Mogul Dordi, President, FLO Mumbai Chapter, Kiran Gera, Past National President of FLO and Founding President, FLO Mumbai Chapter, and Samina Khorakiwala, a leading entrepreneur.
Speaking on the occasion, Armeen Mogul Dordi, Chairperson, FLO Mumbai Chapter, said, “The UAE-India CEPA has redefined opportunities for women entrepreneurs. FICCI-FLO is proud to organise this forum in collaboration with the UAE-India CEPA Council to enable our members to better understand the benefits of CEPA and the UAE’s role in ensuring that their businesses can truly thrive on a global scale.”
Ambassador Abdulnasser Alshali emphasised the central role of women entrepreneurs in CEPA’s objectives, saying: “Empowering women entrepreneurs is central to the goals of the UAE-India CEPA. By promoting inclusive growth, we can unleash the full potential of CEPA, drive sustainable development, and create many new opportunities for women in both countries.”
At the event, Kawther Alkharoosi gave an informative presentation in which he highlighted investment opportunities in the UAE for Indian women entrepreneurs. Ahmed Aljanebi elaborated on the significant benefits of CEPA for women-led businesses, including improved market access, lower trade barriers, and stronger bilateral cooperation.
The UAE-India CEPA has been hailed as a transformational agreement for industries such as textiles, jewellery, and handicrafts, where women entrepreneurs account for a significant share. The agreement simplifies regulatory compliance, streamlines logistics, and promotes transparent business practices to ensure that women-led businesses can thrive in a competitive global market.
Economic data underscores the success of CEPA in strengthening UAE-India trade ties. Bilateral trade is set to grow from US$72.9 billion in the 2021-2022 fiscal year to US$83.64 billion in 2023-2024, representing a growth of 15%. The UAE has consolidated its position as India’s second-largest export market, third-largest trading partner, and fourth-largest investor.
Since its establishment in early 2024, the UICC has played a key role in maximising CEPA-driven opportunities. The Council is committed to promoting open dialogue, enabling concrete collaborations, and advancing business ties between UAE and Indian businesses to achieve shared prosperity.
The collaborative efforts of UICC and FICCI-FLO exemplify the potential of international partnerships in creating a more inclusive and prosperous global economic landscape for women entrepreneurs.
