MEERUT: Allegedly disturbed by the sounds of barking at night, two women, married to Army and CISF personnel, reportedly burned five puppies alive in Sant Nagar Colony, located under the Kankar Khera police station in Meerut. The incident, which came to light on Thursday morning, led to an FIR against the women on Friday after members of the Animal Care Society held a protest at the police station.

According to Anshumali Vashistha, secretary of the Animal Care Society, “The two women, Sobha and Aarti, allegedly took this action because the puppies’ barking disturbed them at night.” Vashistha explained, “They poured petrol on the three-day-old puppies and set them on fire. The puppies, who had not yet opened their eyes, suffered severe cruelty. When locals learned of this, they confronted the women, but initially, police took no action.”

The Animal Care Society then informed SSP Vipin Tada on Thursday, prompting an investigation. When activists found no complaint had been filed, they returned to the station on Friday, leading to the FIR being registered under BNS Section 325 for cruelty to animals. SSP Tada stated, “Upon learning of the incident, I immediately ordered an investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, and locals reported it on Thursday. We filed the FIR, and the investigation is ongoing.” No arrests have been made yet.
