Chatra: Two Women Arrested for Killing a 62-Year-Old Mother-in-Law. Babita Devi (35) and Sangeeta Devi (32) were arrested for allegedly murdering their 62-year-old mother-in-law, Bhikhani Devi, in Baghmundi village, Chatra district. The arrests were made after a tip-off, according to Abhishek Singh, officer-in-charge of Itkhori police station.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when Bhikhani Devi visited her field to oversee cultivation work. Villagers reported that the accused allegedly attacked her, repeatedly kicking her in the chest, which led to her death. The victim’s son, Nageshwar Dangi, rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Following the tragedy, Nageshwar filed an FIR against his sisters-in-law at the Itkhori police station.
Sources revealed that the accused had a history of strained relations with Bhikhani Devi, resulting in frequent disputes. On the day of the incident, an argument broke out in the field, escalating into violence when the two women reportedly pushed Bhikhani to the ground and assaulted her, causing fatal internal injuries.
“We have collected significant evidence against the accused, including eyewitness statements from villagers,” Singh stated. “However, we are awaiting the post-mortem report for definitive confirmation.”
The accused, who were hiding in their residence after the incident, were arrested shortly thereafter.
