On Friday, a tragic accident occurred when an Indian passenger bus carrying 40 individuals plunged into the Marsyangdi River in Nepal’s Tanahun district, approximately 110 kilometers from Kathmandu. The incident resulted in the deaths of at least 14 Indian nationals and left several others injured, according to local police reports. This marks the second such incident in just over a month.

A senior police official informed the news agency ANI that the bus, registered under the number UP FT 7623, had veered off the road and fallen into the river, where it now rests on the riverbank.

Nepal has been experiencing relentless rainfall over the past two months, leading to nearly 200 fatalities due to numerous landslides and floods, particularly affecting the mountainous regions.

A team of 45 personnel from the Armed Police Force, led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Madhav Paudel from the Nepal Disaster Management Training School, has arrived at the accident site and is actively engaged in rescue operations.

The Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner has announced that efforts are underway to establish contact and determine if any individuals from the state were involved in the incident. Additionally, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and Additional District Magistrate of Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, are being dispatched to Nepal to assist with the relief operations.
