Tragedy Strikes Dhaka: Fire Claims 43 Lives and Leaves Dozens Injured
A devastating fire engulfed a commercial complex in Dhaka, Bangladesh, late on February 29, resulting in a tragic loss of lives and leaving many others injured. Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen confirmed that the fire broke out in a building located in Dhaka’s Bailey Road area.
According to reports from firefighters, the fire originated in a popular restaurant situated on the first floor of the building, leading to a swift and intense spread. Many individuals were trapped within the building as flames rapidly engulfed the premises.
Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen provided a grim update on the casualties, stating that at least 33 people, including women and children, were declared dead at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Additionally, at least 10 others succumbed to their injuries after being transported to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Rescue efforts by firefighters were underway throughout the night, with survivors being pulled from the building amidst the chaos. As the dawn of March 1 approached, the toll from the tragic incident stood at a staggering 43 fatalities, while at least 22 individuals were receiving medical treatment for their injuries.
The fire at the six-storey commercial building has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting an outpouring of grief and solidarity. Investigations into the cause of the fire are expected to commence, as authorities seek to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
