“The Vaccine War,” a film currently undergoing private screenings for Indian Americans in several US cities, draws inspiration from the achievements of Indian scientists, particularly women. Renowned film director Vivek Agnihotri and movie star Pallavi Joshi have emphasized that the movie diverges from typical Bollywood productions, enabling the creation of a film that celebrates such accomplishments.

In a joint interview with his actor wife Pallavi, Vivek stated, “We are not Bollywood. That’s why we can afford to make films like this.” The couple is presently in the Washington DC area for exclusive showings of “The Vaccine War,” a cinematic account rooted in the real-life narrative of Indian scientists who, in their battle against COVID-19, developed an economical vaccine benefiting India and the global populace.

Indian Americans have lauded “The Vaccine War,” crafted by accomplished filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, deeming it an enlightening depiction of the triumphs of Indian scientists, particularly women, who played a pivotal role in effectively countering COVID-19 within a population of 1.4 billion, even amid challenging circumstances.

During a special screening held as part of the India for Humanity Tour, actor R. Madhavan was among the prominent attendees who shared their admiration for the film. Via Instagram, Madhavan expressed his profound response to the movie, recounting how he cheered, applauded, and was moved to tears while viewing it.

He commended the performances of Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, Nana Patekar, and Raima Sen in the film, conveying, “Just saw ‘THE VACCINE WAR’ and [was] totally blown out of my mind by the spectacular sacrifices and achievements of the Indian scientific community, which made India’s very first vaccine and kept the nation safe during the most challenging period, told by a Master Storyteller @vivekagnihotri who makes you cheer, applaud, weep, and feel euphoric, all at the same time. Stellar performances by the entire cast, @pallavijoshiofficial @anupampkher #Nanapathekar @raimasen (and every single one of them) so beautifully depict the sacrifices and the sheer grit of our Indian scientists (ladies) aptly and impactfully,” Madhavan added.

Vivek Agnihotri’s “The Vaccine War” centers on the development of a coronavirus vaccine during the pandemic. The film is set to be released in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Bangla, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati, and Marathi. Its release date is scheduled for September 28th.
