US has formally asked Iran to halt the Sale of Drones to Russia
According to a report, the United States is urging Iran to discontinue the sale of weaponized drones to Russia. These drones, which Moscow has employed in the conflict with Ukraine, are at the center of the issue. Citing individuals well-versed in the matter, the Financial Times reveals that as part of broader undisclosed discussions focused on reducing tension, the U.S. is negotiating with Iran to put a stop to the transfer of armed drones to Russia.
The report indicates that the U.S. is applying pressure on Iran to halt its sale of armed drones, as well as spare parts for these unmanned aircraft, to Russia. These drones have been utilized by Moscow in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The information is based on insights from an Iranian official and an individual familiar with the discussions, as per the report.
Despite Reuters’ attempts, responses to inquiries for comments from both the White House and Iran’s foreign ministry have not been promptly provided.
This development is occurring concurrently with the endeavors of both the US and Iran to alleviate tensions and reinitiate more comprehensive dialogues concerning Iran’s nuclear program. On Tuesday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken conveyed his openness to embrace any measures Iran might undertake to de-escalate what he characterizes as its “growing nuclear threat.”
These conversations have occurred alongside the negotiations for a potential prisoner exchange agreement. Notably last week, Iran permitted four detained U.S. citizens to transition from incarceration in Tehran’s Evin prison to house arrest, while the fifth individual was already under home confinement.
According to Reuters, it has been suggested that Iran is contemplating the release of five arrested US citizens. This possible action is a component of a prospective arrangement aiming to release $6 billion in Iranian funds currently held in South Korea.
