Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossien Amir Abdollian have been declared dead following a helicopter crash on Sunday, according to the country’s semi-official news agency Mehr News. The crash occurred in the country’s East Azerbaijan province, due to mountainous terrain and icy cold weather in the region.

According to the news agency Reuters, the helicopter was carrying the Iranian President, some high-ranking officials, and the Foreign Minister. This helicopter was found completely burnt in the forest. Now, according to this report, the rescue team had to fight a lot of difficulties and obstacles like blizzards and difficult mountainous terrain to reach the point of wreckage in the East Azerbaijan Province.

The chief of the Iranian Red Crescent, Pir Hossien Kolivand, told the media that the rescuers saw the helicopter from a distance of 2 km on Monday morning. He stated, “We can see the wreckage and the situation does not look good.” He also added, “No signs of life have been detected among the helicopter passengers.”

This incident occurred on the way back to Tehran, returning from a visit to East Azerbaijan province after two nations, i.e., Azerbaijan and Iran, inaugurated a dam in the region. The dam was the third one they built on the Aras River.
