The South and Bengal are the two areas that the Bharatiya Janata Party was targeting during this election season.
The West Bengal pattern indicates an intriguing turn of events as the counting process goes on. At 10:30 am, the BJP was leading in 14 Lok Sabha seats, while the Trinamool Congress held the lead in 27 seats.
The fight is for 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal. In 2019, the saffron party secured 19 seats. Rekha Patra of Sandeshkhali and Abhijeet Ganguly, a former judge of the Calcutta High Court, are two of the prominent candidates the BJP has fielded to increase its presence in the state.
According to early trends, the TMC’s Mahua Moitra, the sitting MP for Krishnagar, is lagging behind the BJP’s Amrita Roy, also known as “Rani Ma,” a member of the royal family. Also, from the Tamluk constituency, Abhijit Ganguly, who entered politics earlier this year, is far behind.
On the other hand, Rekha Patra, the BJP candidate from Basirhat, the area where Sandeshkhali is located, is lagging behind Nurul Islam, her TMC opponent. Patra was among the first female members of the TMC to file a complaint against Sheikh Shahjahan’s alleged sexual harassment.
Hooghly-born actor-turned-politician Rachna Banerjee is leading the TMC by 7,146 votes. Banerjee is up against Locket Chatterjee of the BJP.
West Bengal conducted polls in each of the seven phases. Key TMC figures have been the target of numerous corruption accusations in the state. Also, many of them are presently dealing with ED cases.
In the meantime, the INDIA group leads in 228 seats, while the National Democratic Alliance leads in 294 seats, surpassing the majority threshold. Let’s be patient and see what occurs in the end.
