The Election Battle Between Congress and Left Democratic Front Takes a Consequential Turn
Rahul Gandhi Attacked the CPI(M) Candidate Pinarayi Vijayan During Campaign in Kerala
According to K.K. Shailaja, the CPI(M) candidate for Vadakara Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, disrespected Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, breaking the INDIA bloc’s decorum.
The former health minister claimed that when the Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, questioned why the federal agencies weren’t detaining Vijayan during his campaign in Kerala last week, the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), which is a component of the Congress-headed INDIA alliance, couldn’t believe it.
Rahul Gandhi previously quite bluntly questioned – why aren’t the CBI, ED, and other agencies questioning Vijayan?
He further raised the question of why the Kerala CM was unaffected by the two CMs who are in jail. He also stated, “This is a bit puzzling,” that the chief minister is assaulting Rahul, even though he has been criticizing the BJP nonstop.
Prior to the Lok Sabha elections, the former health minister, who gained international notoriety for her handling of the COVID epidemic and the 2018 Nipah virus crisis, continued to be the LDF’s greatest hope. Kerala’s election is set for April 26.
According to the Election Commission, Shailaja of Mattannur in Kannur was elected with a record mandate of 96,129 votes during the 2021 assembly polls. Her closest opponent, Illikkal Augusthy of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), received 35,166 votes. The LDF only secured one of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 elections.
In Vadakara, where she is running against Congress MLA Shafi Parambil, the LDF’s campaign depends heavily on her prior success as health minister and her popularity with the public.
Shafi, who is a representative for Palakkad, was picked to challenge Shailaja when K. Muraleedharan, a senior Congress leader and the current MP for Vadakara, was forced to run in Thrissur.
This election fight between Congress and the Left party is not new. However, it sure became much more prominent after the inciting controversy. PV Anwar, an independent MLA backed by the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) administration in Kerala, referred to Congressman Rahul Gandhi as a “low-level citizen” and suggested that he should have a “DNA test.”
Nilambur MLA addressed the Palakkad rally and stated he is unable to address Rahul by his last name, Gandhi. PV Anwar further stated that Gandhi had devolved into such a second-class citizen that he was unfit to bear the Gandhi surname. And this is not from Anwar but from the citizens of India.
Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan infuriated Anwar. Rahul Gandhi asked why Pinarayi Vijayan was not being detained or questioned by federal agents despite a number of accusations being made against the veteran leftist during a recent campaign rally in Kerala.
The remark continued to flow as State Congress acting president MM Hasan called Anwar “the new avatar of Godse.”
Amidst all this, it appeared as though Pinarayi Vijayan was defending the LDF MLA when she stated that Rahul Gandhi was not above criticism.
