In a daring and brazen act, a group of heavily armed terrorists launched an assault on the Pakistan Air Force Base in Mianwali, located in the Punjab region. The attack, which involved multiple suicide bombers, triggered an intense exchange of gunfire. The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) swiftly responded, resulting in the elimination of at least nine terrorists, as confirmed by the PAF.

The PAF issued a statement saying, “On 04 November, 2023, in the early hours of the day, Mianwali Training Air Base of Pakistan Air Force came under a failed terrorist attack. Effective response by the troops has been foiled and thwarted, ensuring the safety and security of personnel and assets.” The PAF troops exhibited exceptional courage and a timely response, neutralising three terrorists even before they could breach the airbase’s defences. The remaining attackers were cornered and isolated by the swift and effective response from the military.

The attack resulted in damage to three aircraft parked within the airbase, as well as a fuel bowser. The Pakistan Army, through its Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), has undertaken a comprehensive joint clearance and combing operation to completely secure the area.

The responsibility for this attack has been claimed by Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP), a relatively lesser-known terrorist group that has recently carried out several high-profile attacks in Pakistan, including an assault that claimed the lives of 12 soldiers at a military base in Balochistan in July.

This attack comes in the wake of another major incident in Gwadar, where at least 14 soldiers lost their lives in an ambush on security forces’ vehicles. The security situation remains a significant concern in Pakistan, with these events underscoring the ongoing challenges in maintaining security and stability.
